DIY Wine Bottle Santa

Two years ago we sewed up some goofy holiday sweaters to put on wine bottles and give as gifts over the holidays. This year, we went a step further and made a Santa suit!

DIY Wine Bottle Santa | Vicky Barone

Materials:
– A free printable template found here.
– Felt in red, white, black, and gold.
– Three white buttons.
– A white pom pom.
– A sewing machine.
– A needle and thread.
– A hot glue gun.
– Fabric scissors.

Directions:
1. Print the template from this post. Trace it onto the red felt twice and cut it out.
2. For the suit: cut out two thin strips of white felt the same width as the base of the suit. Cut six pieces of white felt the same thickness to correspond with the sleeve cuffs and the neck. Sew each of these pieces onto the front and back of the suit.
3. For the belt: cut out two strips of black felt the same width as the template suit to create the belt. Cut a rectangle out of gold and a smaller rectangle out of black to create the buckle. Sew the belt onto the suit and hot glue the buckle to the belt.
4. For the hat: making the base the same width as the neck of the suit, cut two hat outlines out of red felt. Cut two strips of white felt for the base of the hat. Sew the white strips to the bottoms of each side of the hat.
5. Sew the three buttons onto the front of the suit using a needle and thread (or use hot glue).
6. Once all of the little pieces are sewn onto the suit, you will have just the front and the back of the suit as well as the front and back of the hat. With the details facing out, sew the suit together leaving the base, neck, and arm holes open. Sew the hat together, leaving the base open.
7. Use hot glue to attach the pom pom to the tip of the hat.
8. Use fabric scissors to cut away excess felt and thread on the suit and the hat.
9. Slip the Santa suit over a bottle of wine and add the hat on top! Use as decoration for the holidays or give as a hostess gift.

DIY “Merry & Bright” Christmas Garland

We can’t stop making these fabric garlands! This new Christmas bunting makes us so happy and looks great hanging on the mantle AND the Christmas tree! The instructions are just about the same as the “Thankful” garland, but we’ve added them here as well. Keep reading to see how you can make your own…

DIY Fabric Christmas Garland | Merry & Bright | Vicky Barone

Supplies: linen or muslin fabric, red and green fabric, fabric scissors, a sewing machine(optional!), Mod Podge, a paint brush, twine, and mini clothes pins.

Directions:
1. Print out a word or phrase you’d like the banner to read. This will be your stencil and guide for how big to make each pennant.
2. Cut the linen into rectangles (ours were about 3.5″ by 5″).
3. Create a 1/4″ hem on the longer sides of the rectangle and either sew or glue them down. Create the same hem on the top of the rectangle and sew or glue as well.
4. With the rectangle face down, make a 1.5″ cut with scissors in the middle of the base. Fold the two corners created by the cut up and to the sides to create the two points. Glue into place or sew along the edges to match the rest of the hems.
5. Paint both sides of the green and red fabrics with Mod Podge and let dry. This will stiffen the fabric and prevent it from fraying when cut.
6. When the green and red fabric is dry, cut out the letters with scissors using the printed stencil you created.
7. Use more Mod Podge to attach the letters to each linen pennant. (Optional: give each pennant an extra coat of Mod Podge to seal the letters).
8. When the pennants are dry, use mini clothes pins to attach them to a piece of twine. Hang your garland and enjoy!

Apple Cranberry Sangria

Happy Thanksgiving!!! We hope everyone has a wonderful day with their friends and family.

If you need a last minute treat to bring to dinner, we’ve whipped up a quick sangria recipe that is perfect for Thanksgiving AND Christmas!

Apple Cranberry Sangria | Vicky Barone

Ingredients:
1 bottle white wine
1 bottle sparkling apple cider
1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
1 apple, chopped

(We doubled this recipe to fill up the drink dispenser, but the portions listed should be perfect for a regular sized pitcher!)

Directions:
1. Add chopped apples and cranberries to the bottom of a drink dispenser or pitcher.
2. Pour white wine over top of the fruit. Let chill in the refrigerator anywhere from an hour to overnight.
3. Just before serving, add the sparkling apple cider and stir.

Add a little ice to make it extra chilly! And, of course, sangria isn’t complete without a pretty paper straw.
