We can’t believe that Summer is over and the boys are headed back to school for the Fall! Now we’re back to packing lunches and chasing the school bus. In honor of the first day of school, we’re sharing four yummy packed lunch ideas for when you’re stumped on what to send your kiddo to school with. These lunch combinations have fruits, veggies, and protein to give your little ones the nutrition and energy to tackle the day without sacrificing taste.

Back to School Packed Lunch Ideas | Vicky BaroneDoes your little one like hard boiled eggs? Add packets of salt and pepper to spice it up, or chop it up into egg salad with a little mayo. These zucchini mini muffins are made with bananas instead of sugar, and have some chia seeds thrown in!

Back to School Packed Lunch Ideas | Vicky BaroneBite-sized turkey and cheese roll ups with some sneaky spinach are sure to be a hit. We love this popcorn for a healthier option. Add some hummus for cucumber dipping!

Back to School Packed Lunch Ideas | Vicky BaroneQuick quesadillas are a great way to make a packed lunch more exciting. Add some salsa or sour cream for dipping! Chopped avocado and a lime wedge makes a DIY guacamole!

Back to School Packed Lunch Ideas | Vicky BaroneMy boys LOVE peas, so it’s no problem getting them to scarf this lunch down. How cute are these little club sandwiches? We just made a triple-decker turkey and cheese sandwich and cut it into squares. Colorful toothpicks add some flair and an apple with almond butter is almost dessert-like to round out the meal.

Here are the lunch boxes I use, pictured above. They make packing lunches SO easy, especially the night before! They help keep all the food separate and fresh and they’re dishwasher safe.

If you liked this post, we have a whole new set of lunch box ideas right here!

Happy First Day of School!!

Back to School Teacher Gifts

Back to School season is here, can you believe it? Today we’re sharing a simple DIY gift that your kiddos can make for their new teachers!

Back to School Teacher Gifts | Vicky Barone

Supplies: tin cans, acrylic paint, and a paint brush.

Directions:
1. Paint each can with white paint to prime it.
2. After the white paint has dried, paint each can in whatever colors you like. We created an ombre look by painting one can blue, then adding white paint to the same color blue to lighten it for the second can. For the third can, we added two more coats of white paint.
3. Using a contrasting color, paint your little one’s hand with a foam brush and press it onto a can to create a hand print.
4. Let dry completely and add pencils, flowers, candy, or any kind of treat.

*Optional: Coat each can with a spray acrylic sealer.

Back to School Teacher Gifts | Vicky BaroneThey are a great way to say “thank-you-in-advance for a great school year” or “thank you for a great Summer” to any teacher or camp counselor you might be saying goodbye to.

DIY Washi Tape Pencils

We love washi tape! As we build up our growing collection, we’re finding more and more ways to use it. Earlier this week, we showed you how to make flower pens wrapped in washi tape, and today we’ve got an even easier DIY: washi tape pencils. You don’t need to break the bank when it comes to trendy back-to-school style. Any basic school supply can be jazzed up with a few pieces of our favorite new accessory.

DIY Washi Tape Pencils | Vicky Barone

Supplies: No. 2 Pencils (we got ours from Target for 77 cents!), washi tape in assorted colors, and scissors.

Directions: We wrapped ours two different ways. The first way was by cutting small pieces of tape (about an inch) and wrapping the pencil one piece at a time, horizontally, lining up the design the best we could. The second way was by cutting two or three pieces of tape the length of the pencil and placing them on the pencil from the base of the eraser to the tip. You could also wrap the pencils in a spiral with one long piece of tape.

Whenever you need to sharpen the pencil, just peel back a little tape and go to town! We hope you and your kids have fun making these pencils. Happy back-to-school season!
