DIY Frosted Glass Vases

Our Dip Dyed Frosted Tumblers have been such a hit lately, that we decided to bring back out the Martha Stewart glass paint to create something new! These frosted glass vases use the same technique as the tumblers and make the perfect accessory for fresh flowers in your home.

Here’s how you can make your own:

Supplies: glass vases, rubbing alcohol, tape, a foam pouncer or brush, and Martha Stewart’s Translucent Frost Glass Paint.

Directions:
1. Clean the tumblers with rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball or paper towel. Let dry.
2. Tape off sections of the vases and press out all the air bubbles under the tape with your fingernail.
3. Dip the pouncer or brush in the frost paint and begin painting the vases using an up and down motion.
4. Let dry two hours, then apply a second coat to even out the paint.
5. Let dry overnight and then peel off the tape.
6. Follow the directions on Martha Stewart’s craft website for how to set the paint (We air cure for 21 days, but you can also oven bake them).

Paint-Dipped Silverware

Here on the blog, we are ALL about the “dip-dyed” look. Today we have an easy addition to our collection that will be perfect for Summer.

Supplies: thrifted silverware, acrylic paint, tape, a paint brush, plastic wrap, and food-safe sealant.

Directions:
1. Tape off the handles of each piece of silverware. Cover the tops of each piece with plastic wrap and tape again to seal.
2. Use a paint brush to paint each handle. Some may need a few coats.
3. When the paint is dry, spray each handle with the food-safe sealant and let dry.
4. Remove the plastic and tape and your new silverware is ready to use!

DIY Holidays

Dip-Dyed Easter Eggs

Since dip-dye is all the rage these days, we thought we’d try it on our Easter eggs!

All you need are some hard boiled eggs, cups, and a good old-fashioned egg dye kit.

Directions:
1. Mix the dye according to the directions, making sure the pellets are completely dissolved.
2. Pour about 1/3 of the dyed water into a clear cup like these.
3. Carefully lower the egg into the cup at the angle you’d like it to be dyed and lean it against the side of the cup.
4. When the egg has reached the desired shade, carefully remove it from the cup.
5. Blot any drips of water from the egg and let it rest on a paper towel or cooling rack to dry.

*Tip for measuring the right amount of dye into the clear cup: To make sure the water line was at the right place and not too high or low once the egg was in it, I first tested it out with clear water. I placed an egg in a clear cup and poured water in after it until it reached the height I wanted on the egg. Then I removed the egg and made a mark on the cup where the water line was.

*Tip for eggs with horizontal dye lines: I placed these eggs (the blue and orange ones) straight down into the dye and held them steady with my index finger in the center, rather than leaning them up against the side of the cup. All you need is a little patience and a steady hand!

Dip-Dyed Frosted Tumblers

Last but not least, my very favorite detail from our End of Summer Party!

We loved the Metallic Confetti Tumblers from our Summer party so much that we just had to make some more. Again we went with Martha Stewart’s glass paint collection, but this time we tried the “Frost” paint. It is an awesome product and we’re so happy with how these turned out!

Materials: Glass tumblers, rubbing alcohol, painter’s tape, a foam pouncer, and Martha Stewart Craft’s Translucent Frost Glass Paint (we used Beach Glass!)

What to do:
1. Using rubbing alcohol and a paper towel or cotton ball, clean the tumblers and let dry.
2. Take the painter’s tape in manageable sections and tape off where you want your paint to go.
3. Use your finger nail or a credit card to press out all air bubbles and seal the tape onto the tumblers.
4. Dip the foam pouncer in the frost paint and begin painting the tumblers using an up and down motion (don’t worry if it doesn’t look perfect – a second coat will fix any mistakes!).
5. Let dry two hours before applying a second coat.
6. Let second coat dry overnight and then peel off the painter’s tape!
7. Follow the directions on Martha Stewart’s craft website for how to set the paint (We air cure for 21 days, but you can also oven bake them!).
8. Have a party!
