DIY Jack-o-Lantern Soda Bottles

Looking to add some spooky details to your Halloween party? How about these jack-o-lantern soda bottles with sweet faces and even sweeter orange soda! Here’s how we made our own and topped them off with Places for Faces…

DIY Jack-o-Lantern Soda Bottles | Vicky Barone | Places for Faces

Supplies: glass bottles, black vinyl stickers, scissors, Places for Faces, tape, and paper straws.

Directions:
1. Clean your soda bottles thoroughly and let dry.
2. Cut silly jack-o-lantern faces out of the black vinyl (we used scraps from other sticker projects!).**
3. Add the stickers to the soda bottles to create faces.
4. Use Places for Faces to create your own personalized dessert toppers.
5. Print out the template and cut out the faces.
6. Tape each one to a paper straw.
4. Add some orange soda and the straw to the bottle and enjoy!

**you can also draw the faces on with a Sharpie!

Pumpkin Ice Bucket

We’ve seen this amazing idea all over Pinterest and we just had to try it for ourselves. We figured it was only appropriate to fill such an ice bucket with pumpkin beer…but you can also use it for wine bottles, champagne, or even soda!

All you need is a large, squat pumpkin, a bowl, ice, and your drink of choice. Here’s how to make your very own pumpkin ice bucket:

Step 1: Cut off the top of the pumpkin and scoop out the insides. You’ll want to cut lower than you usually would when carving a jack-o-lantern so that you have the biggest opening possible.

Step 2: Find a bowl that fits inside the pumpkin. We used the outside of a salad spinner! It was the perfect size.

Step 3: Add ice.

Step 4: Add beer!

Step 5: Throw a Halloween party!

Jack-o-Lantern Apple Stamps

It’s Friday, which means we’re another week closer to Halloween! To keep you and your little ones busy while you wait, we have a super fun DIY that you can make with materials already in your home (and kitchen!).Jack-o-Lantern Apple Stamps | Vicky Barone

These sweet little jack-o-lanterns are made from apples! Similar to our St. Patrick’s Day Shamrock Pepper Stamps, we used produce to create the perfect pumpkin shape.

Supplies: apples, a knife, a cutting board, acrylic paint (in orange, black, and green), a paint brush, a paper plate, and a Sharpie (optional).

Directions:
1. Cut an apple in half and remove any seeds that look like they could fall out during the painting process.
2. Pour some orange paint onto a paper plate and dip an apple half into it.
3. Dab off some of the paint and give the apple stamp a few test runs to see how thick you’d like the paint. We had an extra piece of paper to test on.
4. Press the paint-covered apple half onto your work surface as many times as you’d like! You can create a pumpkin patch, or just a hodge podge of floating jack-o-lanterns.
5. When the orange paint has dried completely, use a paint brush and some black paint to create the jack-o-lantern faces and green paint to create leaves and curly vines.
6. I wrote a Happy Halloween message with a black Sharpie, but you can use more black paint if you’re feeling brave!

Have fun with it! This is a great project for kids — they will love using fruit as a stamp (just don’t let them take a paint covered bite!).

Clementine Jack-o-Lanterns

Halloween is in three days! Surprise your kids with a mini jack-o-lantern in their lunch box this week!

All you need are some clementines and a Sharpie you have yourself a mini jack-o-lantern. Since we had so many clementines, we decided to make a little Happy Halloween display with them! Make a bunch of funny faced jack-o-lanterns and put them in a large bowl for a healthy Halloween centerpiece.

Transformers Pumpkins

It’s almost Halloween! Time to carve the pumpkins!  For the last couple of years I got away with carving a goofy face. However, this year I had a special request from our 4-year-old who is obsessed with Transformers.  I guess saying I got away with carving a goofy face isn’t exactly accurate because last year I splurged and purchased a Pumpkin Carving Kit from Williams Sonoma since I almost lopped off my own finger the year before trying to use a cheaper version.  I attempted a Mickey Mouse face last year and after hours of carving, I produce a masterpiece that my then 3-year-old said he liked and then moved on.  He probably would have been just fine with the goofy face, but this year, after having a little taste of last year’s extravagantly-carved pumpkin, he requested Transformers.

Now I’m worried that they won’t last until tomorrow night, but for now, here they are in all their glory: The Autobots and The Decepticons.

To carve these designs, I created my own template on a piece of paper so that I didn’t have to freehand the logos.  It was much quicker and turned out more symmetrical.  Once I had the template, I traced the logos onto the pumpkins in pencil so the carving would go quickly.  If you search the web, you can find lots of Transformers images that would work great for tracing and carving your own!

Now I’m extremely worried about what my son’s request will be next year. I may have to take an actual carving class!
