Valentine’s Day Paper Heart Wreaths

We have a full week of Valentine’s Day inspiration leading up to the 14th! Today we’re sharing a little paper project to help decorate for this lovely season. These Valentine’s Day wreaths are made up of lots and lots of hearts! Here’s how you can make your own…

Valentine's Day Paper Heart Wreaths | Vicky Barone

Supplies: scrapbook paper, a paper cutter, and hot glue.

Directions:
1. For the medium wreath, cut 6 strips of paper 1″ wide by 8″ long and 6 more strips of paper 1″ wide by 10″ long.
2. Fold the 8″ strips in half, patterned side together. Fold the 10″ strips in half, white side together.
3. Glue one end of an 8″ strip to an end of a 10″ strip, white sides together.
4. When the glue is set, glue the opposite ends of both strips together, white sides together again.
5. Glue the folded centers together with a dot of glue.
6. Take the glued ends and curl them in towards each other to create the heart shape. Glue the ends together and hold in place until the glue sets.
7. Repeat with the rest of the strips until you have six hearts.
8. Glue the hearts together in a circle to create a wreath!

To make the smallest wreath, repeat the steps above with 6 strips of 6″ paper and 6 strips of 8″ paper.

To make the largest wreath, in addition to the 8″ and 10″ pieces, you will also need 6 6″ strips and 6 12″ strips. Follow the directions above, but have all four the strips glued together in size order.

What shall we do with our wreaths? We are thinking of hanging them up with string, although they look super cute standing up and stacked!

Halloween Bat Pumpkins

Fall is in full swing and pumpkins are taking over! If you’re anything like us, you frequently find yourself leaving the grocery store, farmer’s market, and craft store with more and more mini pumpkins. We don’t blame you! They’re irresistible (especially to little ones tagging along on your errands). Thankfully, there are endless things to do with those little orange wonders to give them a multitude of purposes around the house.

Today we’re sharing a super simple DIY to turn your mini pumpkins into bats for Halloween!

Supplies: mini pumpkins, a thumb tack, patterned black and gray scrapbook paper, scissors, toothpicks, and tape.

Directions:
1. Cut bat wings out of scrapbook paper. We made a template to trace by holding a pumpkin on its side and sketching some wings to the left and right. One curved swoop out, and four curved swoops in. Once you get the shape you like, cut out the wings and use them to trace the shape onto the back of the patterned scrapbook paper. Cut the scrapbook paper wings with scissors.
2. Tape a toothpick to the back of each wing, leaving 1/4 inch of toothpick sticking out past each wing.
3. Use a thumbtack to make two holes in the sides of a pumpkin. To make the wings stick out at different angles, make the thumbtack hole in the center, the top, or the bottom.
4. Insert the wings into the holes, pressing them in until the paper meets up with the pumpkin and you can’t see the toothpick.

Decorate your home with your bat pumpkins! We put ours on candle sticks on the dining room table for a Halloween-themed tablescape.

DIY Dry Erase Boards

Are you a list-maker? How about a list-misplacer? If the answer is yes…then this post is for you! Today we are sharing a stylish way to display your grocery and to-do lists without wasting paper (or misplacing it).

You only need two things to create these dry erase boards: a frame (with glass), and a piece of scrapbook paper.

Just cut the scrapbook paper to size and place it in the frame like you would a picture. Use a dry-erase marker to draw directly onto the glass!

DIY Holidays

DIY Bunny Garland

We can’t pass up a colorful garland no matter the holiday! This DIY Bunny Garland is no exception. All you need is some scrapbook paper and mini white pom poms to create these sweet little bunnies. For most of our garlands, we like to keep twine and mini clothes pins on hand. It’s so easy to swap out garlands depending on the season and store the ones not in use. Keep reading to learn how to make your own!

Supplies: kraft paper, scrapbook paper in pastel colors, scissors, pom poms, glue, twine, and mini clothespins.

Directions:
1. Using a paper cutter or scissors, cut rectangles out of the brown kraft paper.
2. Cut a triangle out of the bottom of each rectangle with scissors.
3. Draw a bunny shape onto a piece of kraft paper and cut it out. This will be your stencil.
4. Use the bunny stencil to trace the shape onto the pastel scrapbook paper and cut.
5. Glue the bunny shapes to the kraft paper flags and glue a pom pom to each bunny for the tail.
6. When the glue is dry, clip each flag to the twine using the mini clothes pins and hang your garland.

DIY Triangle Garland

We haven’t made a paper garland in a while and now we’re making a comeback with our favorite ones yet! This triangle paper garland is the perfect DIY decor for a kids room, playroom, or even an office.

We love the way the triangle garlands drape AND we love how easy they are to make. Here is what you need to make your own…

Materials: scrapbook paper, a paper cutter, and a sewing machine threaded with all purpose thread.

Directions:
1. Cut the paper into strips, then squares, then triangles. This is easiest to do with a paper cutter, but scissors work just fine!
2. Set the sewing machine on a loose stitch. Feed the triangles into the sewing machine base first. When the needle gets to the tip of the triangle, add another triangle, base first again.
3. Hang and enjoy!

Here is one we made using patterned scrapbook paper mixed with solids. You can measure each paper strip and square you cut to make each triangle the same size, or you can wing it and make varying sizes. Both look great!

DIY Hoppy Easter Garland

We’ve mastered the art of paper buntings (seeing as how we’ve made one for nearly every holiday), and decided to create this Easter garland to add to our collection. And while we had enough chipboard As, we thought the Easter bunny would appreciate our creative spelling. 🙂

Materials: Scrapbook paper in Spring colors, adhesive chipboard alphabet letters, a paper cutter and/or scissors, mini clothespins, and twine. You can find all of these materials in your local craft store!

Directions:
1. Using a paper cutter, cut scrapbook paper into 2.5 x 5 inch rectangles.
2. Cut a triangle out of the bottom of each paper rectangle using scissors. We made a stencil out of scrap paper to make sure each triangle cut was the same.
3. Remove the backing from the letters and attach to each paper flag.
4. Cut one long piece of twine (or two medium length pieces) and attach each flag with two mini clothespins, leaving equal space between the flags and extra twine on each end for hanging.
