DIY Tinsel New Year Numbers

We made some fun and flashy signs for our New Year’s Eve party! These tinsel number would look great on a buffet table or as props in a photo booth!

DIY Tinsel New Year NumbersMaterials: Two pieces of foam core, an X-Acto knife, tinsel (we used about three bags from the dollar store), glue, and scissors.

Directions:
1. Trace numbers onto foam core and cut out using the X-Acto knife.
2. Cover one side of a number with glue and press on tinsel.
3. After the first side is dry, flip over the number and repeat.
4. When both sides of the number are dry, take scissors and cut away excess tinsel from the outline of the number.

Cover the numbers with as much or as little tinsel as you like and have fun with it! This can be a very messy project so make sure you have your vacuum handy!

We hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! Enjoy these last days of 2013, because 2014 is right around the corner 🙂

Tinsel Swizzle Sticks and Pomegranate Champagne

Christmas may be over, but the holiday season is still in full effect! We have the perfect drink to sip on while you’re ringing in the new year, complete with festive drink stirrers!

DIY Tinsel Swizzle Sticks and Pomegranate ChampagneMaterials: Plastic drink stirrers, tinsel garland, scissors, and glue.

Directions:
1. Using scissors, cut off a small piece of tinsel (about an inch and a half).
2. Put glue on the top of the drink stirrer.
3. Hold piece of tinsel onto glue until it sets (if your tinsel garland has wire in it, bend the wire around the drink stirrer to help hold its place).
4. Let dry completely and serve in a champagne glass!

Pomegranate ChampagneThe pomegranate champagne is so delicious and simple! Pour an ounce or two of pomegranate juice in a champagne glass and fill the rest with your favorite champagne. For a kid-friendly version, swap out the champagne for sparkling cider or try these magic cotton candy drinks!

DIY Happy New Year Garland

This post contains affiliate links. If purchased, I will receive a commission, but the price stays the same for you!

We made a garland for our New Year’s Eve party! It’s our go-to bunting that works for every holiday. Check out our Christmas and Thanksgiving garlands too!

DIY Happy New Year GarlandMaterials: Black scrapbook paper, glittery adhesive chipboard alphabet letters (similar, similar), mini clothespins, a black marker or paint, a paper cutter and/or scissors, and gold trim.

The above supplies contain affiliate links. If purchased, I will receive a commission, but the price stays the same for you!

Directions:
1. Using a paper cutter, cut scrapbook paper into 4×6 inch rectangles.
2. Cut a triangle out of the bottom of each paper rectangle using scissors. We made a stencil out of scrap paper to make sure each triangle cut was the same.
3. Remove the backing from the letters and attach to each paper flag.
4. Paint clothespins black, or color them in with a black marker.
5. Cut one long piece of trim (or three pieces like we did) and attach each flag with a clothespin, leaving equal space between the flags and extra trim on each end for hanging.

DIY Party Poppers

We LOVE these confetti poppers from DIY studio and decided to make our own for New Year’s Eve! Instead of confetti, we filled the poppers with toys for the kids to play with. They were so easy to make and we love the way they turned out!

DIY Party PoppersMaterials: Paper towel/ toilet paper rolls, tissue paper, ribbon, tape, scissors, and toys and/or confetti to fill them up!

DIY Party PoppersDirections:
1. Cut toilet paper roll in half.
2. Fill with toys or confetti! We filled ours with toy cars and colorful bracelets.
3. Tape each half of the toilet paper roll to a piece of tissue paper.
4. Roll up the popper in one or two layers of tissue paper and secure with tape or a dot of glue (one layer of tissue paper works best).
5. Tie each end with ribbon.
6. Have the kiddos pull on the ends to rip open the popper for their surprise!

Sparkling Cotton Candy Drink

This post contains affiliate links. If purchased, I will receive a commission, but the price stays the same for you!

You might have seen this pretty picture floating around Pinterest lately and, if you’re like us, you got really excited and pinned it! Well, we searched high and low for more examples and came up empty handed. The only thing left for us to do was the try it out ourselves! We hate to disappoint, but cotton candy and Perrier actually looks like this:

Cotton Candy Sparkling DrinkWhile is seems like pouring a carbonated beverage over the fluffy treat creates little floating sugar drops, we think the popular picture shows nothing more than some out-of-focus bubbles.

The good news is that the drink is still a fun treat for your little ones and can be a great addition to your New Year’s Eve celebration!

Sparkling Cotton Candy DrinkIngredients: Cotton candy and sparkling water. You can get cotton candy at the dollar store (or right here). Swap out the sparkling water with Sprite if you want it to be extra sweet!

The above supplies contain affiliate links. If purchased, I will receive a commission, but the price stays the same for you!

Directions:
1. Fill glass with cotton candy.
2. Pour sparkling water over cotton candy slowly and watch it dissolve and change colors!

Sparkling Cotton Candy DrinkWe put blue and green in one glass and pink in another. We like the look of the blue better, but they are both fun to watch!

Check out Perrier’s YouTube video on how to make the drink here.
