Rice Krispie Christmas Characters

Today we’re sharing a mid-week treat we are sure you’ll just adore. Inspired by our Halloween Rice Krispie Characters and our love for candy eyes, we created some sweet chocolate covered characters that are perfect for Christmas! Here’s how to make your own…

Supplies: rice krispie treats (store bought or homemade), cake pop sticks, candy eyes, pretzels, M&Ms, silver nonpareils, candy corn, vanilla cake frosting, and candy melts in light cocoa, dark cocoa, white, and red.

Snowmen: Add a cake pop stick to the center of a rice krispie treat. Spread vanilla frosting on the rice krispie treat using a knife or a spoon (you can also substitute white candy melts for frosting!). Melt dark cocoa candy melts, scoop into a Ziploc bag, and cut a corner. On a cookie sheet lined with wax paper, pipe the chocolate into a top hat shape. Let cool in the fridge until hardened. When the hat is ready, press it gently onto the top of the snowman. Cut a triangle out of a candy corn to create the carrot nose and press it into the frosting. Add candy eyes and silver nonpareils for buttons.

Reindeer: Melt a bowl of light cocoa candy melts. Add a cake pop stick to the center of the rice krispie treat and dip the top of the treat into the melted chocolate. Use a spoon to help spread the chocolate around. Place treat on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper. Immediately add candy eyes and a red M&M before the chocolate hardens. Break off pieces of pretzels and stick them into the top for antlers. Place in fridge to harden chocolate.

Santa: Add a cake pop stick to a rice krispie treat. Melt a bowl of red candy melts, scoop into a Ziploc bag, and cut off a corner. Pipe the red chocolate onto the top of the rice krispie treat to create a hat. Let sit in fridge to harden. Remove from fridge and spread white frosting onto the bottom of the treat to create a beard. Scoop more frosting into a Ziploc bag and cut off a corner. Pipe this frosting onto the base of the hat to create trim and add a pom pom to the top. You can also use this frosting to create a mustache. Add two dots of frosting to attach candy eyes.

DIY Apple Cookie Pops

How is everyone’s first week back at school going? We’re guessing that right about now you might be in need of a sweet treat. You’ve put in a lot of hard work this week! How about some chocolatey cookie pops masquerading as apples?

These delicious treats would make a great gift for your new teachers, or just a gift to yourself after a long hard day. Here’s how we made them…

DIY Apple Cookie Pops | Back to school ideas | Vicky Barone

Ingredients: Oreo cookies, red candy melts, green candy melts, pretzel sticks (broken into 1/2″ pieces), and cake pop sticks.

You will also need a cookie sheet lined with wax paper and a microwave safe bowl.

Directions:
1. Melt the green candy melts in the microwave according to the package directions.
2. Scoop the green candy melts into a Ziploc bag and cut the tip of the bag.
3. Draw leaves with the green candy melts onto a wax paper lined cookie sheet. Let cool.
4. Melt red candy melts until smooth.
5. Dip a cake pop stick into the candy melts and insert it into an Oreo. Rest on the cookie sheet with the leaves and place in the fridge for a few minutes to set.
6. Remove from fridge and dip each Oreo into the red candy melts. Use a spoon to spread the candy melts around the cookies to coat.
7. Before the red candy cools, insert a leaf and a pretzel into the top.
8. Rest the completed cookies on the cookie sheet and place in fridge to set.

Chocolate Dipped Fruit Pops | Vicky Barone

Ingredients: fresh fruit, candy melts, and lollipop sticks.

Directions:
1. Clean and dry the fruit. Peel and cut bananas and kiwi into 1/4 inch slices. Remove stems from strawberries.
2. Insert lollipop sticks into fruit.
3. Melt chocolate candy melts in the microwave according to directions.
4. Dip each piece of fruit into the melted chocolate and place on a wax paper lined baking sheet.
5. Place baking sheet in the fridge for 15 minutes to set chocolate.
6. Enjoy immediately!

Cake Pop Turkey Treats

It may not come as a surprise that we have a little obsession with candy eyeballs (see exhibit A, B, C, D, and E). We made no exception when decorating these cake pop turkeys for Thanksgiving! These delicious little treats take no time at all to put together (and they’re easier than they look!).

Supplies: cake pops, cake pop sticks, candy eyes, candy corn, pretzels, and dark cocoa candy melts.

Directions:
1. Bake cake pops using a mold or a machine. Let cool completely. Place in freezer overnight or until frozen.
2. Melt candy melts according to directions.
3. Dip a cake pop stick into the candy melts and then insert into center of cake pop.
4. Dip the cake pop into the candy melts and coat completely.
5. On a cookie sheet lined with waxed paper, lay down pretzels. Lay the cake pop down directly onto the bottom center of the pretzel. The candy coated cake pop will adhere to the pretzel as the candy melts harden.
6. Immediately press a candy corn and two candy eyes onto the front of the cake pop. If the candy melts harden too quickly, add a little more from the bowl of melted chocolate to the back of the candy corn and candy eyes and press onto the face.

No cake pop machine or mold? No problem! You can also use a marshmallow! To make the candy corn feathers, first spread a small circle of candy melts onto the waxed paper before resting the coated marshmallow down. Then add candy corn to the circle and let harden.

Rice Krispie Halloween Characters

Our love for googly eyes is only paralleled by our love for candy eyeballs (the googly eyes of the dessert world). They took these rice krispie treats from a chocolate dipped dessert to a cast of hilarious Halloween characters in no time at all. Please, take our advice and keep a package of candy eyes in your pantry. You never know when you’ll need to add some personality to an otherwise emotionless treat!

Here’s how to make your own Halloween Rice Krispie Characters:

Supplies: rice krispie treats (store bought or homemade), cake pop sticks, candy melts, black decorating icing, and candy eyeballs.

Mummy: Melt a bowl of white candy melts. Add a cake pop stick to the center of the rice krispie treat and dip the top of the treat into the melted chocolate. Use a spoon to help spread the chocolate around. Place treat on a cookie sheet lined with wax paper. Place in fridge to harden chocolate. Once hardened, scoop some more of the melted chocolate into a ziploc bag and cut off a small corner. Pipe the chocolate over the treat in diagonal zig zags to create the wrapped-up mummy look. Place two candy eyeballs on top and press down slightly so they look like they are between the wraps.

Jack-o-lantern: Dip top half of treat in melted orange candy melts and place on the cookie sheet. Immediately press candy eyeballs into the melted chocolate. Create a stem by cutting a green candy melt and sticking it in the top of the pumpkin. You can also use an Airhead or a green twizzler. Use the black decorating icing to create the mouth.

Monsters: Dip one treat in blue candy melts and one in purple. Use a mix of large and small candy eyeballs to create goofy monster faces.

Frankenstein: Dip treat in green candy melts and immediately press in two candy eyeballs. Use decorating icing to draw on hair, stitches, and a mouth. You can even add neck bolts by cutting up some black licorice and sticking it in the sides!

Pancake Pops

What’s more exciting than pancakes on a Saturday morning?

Mini pancakes on a stick!

All you need to make these cute little breakfast bites is pancake mix and cake pop sticks!

Ingredients: pancake mix, milk, and eggs.

Directions:
1. Combine ingredients according to pancake mix package.
2. For pans that are NOT non-stick, grease with spray oil.
3. One at a time, spoon pancake batter into the pan to create a small circle (ours were about 2-2.5 inches in diameter).
4. Immediately place a cake pop stick into the center of the pancake and roll the stick to cover it in batter.
5. Flip the pancake when bubbles begin to form and cook until done.

You can even make them into little heart pops! These would be perfect for Valentine’s Day!

Pancake pops are so much fun to dip in syrup and eat, your kids will LOVE them. Try making different shapes or letters to spell our your kiddos name!

Chick & Bunny Marshmallow Pops

How ridiculously cute are these Easter marshmallow pops? We had so much fun making these characters come to life and we’re excited to share them with you today!

Ingredients: Marshmallows, white, pink, and yellow candy melts, cake pop sticks, and candy eyes.

Directions:
1. Put each marshmallow on a cake pop stick.
2. Dip the marshmallows in melted yellow candy melts for the chicks and white candy melts for the bunnies.
3. Place coated marshmallows on a waxed paper lined cookie sheet and let set in the refrigerator.
4. Cut extra marshmallows into triangles for the ears and wings*
5. To coat the wings and ears with candy melts, first put each on a toothpick and dip them like you did the whole marshmallows. Then place coated wings and ears in fridge to set as well.
6. When everything has set, remove the toothpicks from the wings and ears, dip the bases in candy melts, and attach to the whole marshmallows.
7. To attach the candy eyes: add a little melted chocolate to the back of each eye using a toothpick. Adhere to marshmallow.
8. To make the bunny nose: melt the pink candy melts and use a toothpick to carefully paint a triangle just below the eyes.
9. To make the chick’s beak: add red food coloring to the remaining yellow candy melts to create an orange color. Repeat step 8.

*Tip for cutting marshmallows: Keep a glass of water next to your cutting board and dip the knife into it between each cut. Keeping the knife wet will prevent the marshmallow from sticking to the blade. It will also help create clean cuts when cutting small shapes.
