Snowman Mason Jar

Just because the holiday season is over, doesn’t mean we can’t keep celebrating Winter! The Christmas tree, the lights, and the gifts may all be packed away, but we are still having fun creating snow-inspired decor and crafts like this snowman mason jar! Here’s how you can make your own…

DIY Snowman Mason Jar | Vicky Barone

Supplies: a mason jar, white yarn, hot glue, buttons, red felt, and scissors.

Directions:
1. Run a line of hot glue around the base of the mason jar and begin wrapping with yarn. You won’t need to cover the entire jar with the hot glue, but rather every few rows, put a dot or a line of glue on the side or the back of the jar. Continue to wind the yarn around until you reach the neck.
2. Cut an inch wide piece of felt from the longest side of the sheet to make the scarf. Wrap it around the jar to see if you’d like it longer or shorter.
3. Use scissors at the ends of the scarf to create fringe.
4. Tie the scarf around the neck of the jar. Optional: hot glue in place.
5. Use hot glue to secure two or three buttons on the front of the jar.

That’s it! Now you have your completed snowman, ready to add to your wintry wonderland. Fill the jar with candy, use it as a vase for flowers, or simply leave it out as decoration all on its own.

Is it snowing where you are? How are you celebrating Winter?

DIY Snowflake Window Clings

Happy Monday! Another week of Winter has come and gone and still no snow! Well, we did see some flurries two weeks ago, but other than that we are still snow-less. Has it snowed where you are?

Today we’re sharing a kid-friendly DIY to encourage those snow flakes to fall! These window clings are super fun to create, and look great on glass windows and doors. Here’s how you can make your own…

DIY Snowflake Window Clings | Vicky Barone

Supplies:
3D glitter fabric paint
– Ziploc sandwich bags
– Snowflake stencil (we made our own with a piece of paper and a marker).

Directions:
1. If you are making your own snowflake stencil, use a marker to draw it on a piece of paper.
2. Lay a Ziploc bag on top of the stencil.
3. Trace the design onto the plastic bag with the paint.
4. Let dry overnight.
5. Carefully peel and remove the snowflake from the plastic bag and stick to a window or glass door.

DIY Snowflake Window Clings | Vicky Barone

The trick to keep the designs from ripping when you peel them off the bag, is to have a strong center and thick, consistent lines. Using a sturdy plastic surface, like a Ziploc sandwich bag, is super important as well! Using a flimsy plastic bag or plastic wrap will cause the design to stick and make a tangled mess even when fully dry.

It’s also important to have a stoic model like Cooper to stand behind the decals on the back door.

Bonus points if you have grimy kid hand prints on your door! They add to the design, don’t you think?

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!
